[+] A Closer Look at Blast Mitigation and Protection: NURVA CORPORATION Completes Initial Research and Designs for Advanced Blast Protection System

NURVA CORPORATION has completed the initial phase of research for a next generation active blast countermeasure system [BLAST-X®]; an advanced, lightweight and hardened composite based system, for integration on new and existing military vehicle platforms. [BLAST-X®] active blast countermeasure system offers protection based on advanced engineering technology which mitigates the effects of explosions and blasts.

“From the start of this project, there were critical directives requiring careful consideration for the introduction of a new level-two kit as it relates to the Army's FY25 objective. This ranged from the most obvious; system installation easily performed by non-specialist personnel, system design compatibility for multiple variants of US and allied military vehicles and most critical, system performance delivers blast defense capabilities equal to or greater than the currently heavy, up-armored kit currently on military combat vehicles. We take great pride in our determination to achieve these directives, which could mean the difference between life and death for our soldiers”, said Chadwick Fernandez, Director of Intelligence & Analytics, NURVA Corporation.

The core of this new innovative system is a polymer composite blast plate specifically molded to fit the exact vehicle specifications for complete coverage of the vehicle undercarriage. The blast plate is filled with proprietary blast suppression pellets and an energy dissipating liquid gel, which when pressured, exponentially hardens the blast mitigation properties by multiple factors, resulting in a state of the art total underbody blast defense solution. To determine the best system design, extensive modeling in 3D helped assess the behavioral probability and the risk inherent to the structure to meet protective performance attributes. Installation is based on engineering the system to simply bolt on to the vehicle’s undercarriage by utilizing the manufacturer’s bolt pattern for a true “bolt and go” installation process.

[BLAST-X®] active blast countermeasure system increases survivability by minimizing the transfer of blast energy which usually travels to the vehicle occupants. The system diverts or redirects the blast pathway and blast energy acceleration providing a reliable, bottom line defense against a wide spectrum of gas explosions and bomb blasts, delivering to the military a viable and affordable occupant survivability technology designed explicility to save lives.

[BLAST-X®] System Capabilities:

[+] Significant per vehicle cost savings with equivalent blast protection performance as compared to heavy steel up-armoring systems
[+] System operational advantages; minimal impact on weight, cargo capability, maintenance, vehicle mobility and operational capabilities
[+] Advanced design to ensure seamless integration with vehicle platform
[+] Easily and quickly applied to or removed from vehicles as mission requirements dictates
[+] Designed, tested and fabricated to withstand catastrophic blast conditions to include any combination of explosions or bomb blasts
